The Civil War divided the country in two. It spanned the course of four years. But it was the immeasurable stories, the battles, the people and the events that truly defined this historic conflict. Missouri witnessed more battles and engagements than any other state, with the exception of Virginia and Tennessee. It was the site of the northern-most battle in the Civil War. It saw the first battle of an African-American regiment and the largest cavalry operation in American military history.
